To blog or not to blog

Should Room 18 students be allowed to blog? Should Room 19 be able to use it's fabulous wiki? Is it of benefit to you?
The Ministry of Education believe we are doing a good job but also think maybe we shouldn't be allowed because we are too young.
What do you think?

I think it is really important to blog because it is fun and it encourages us to search up interesting things on the internet. It also gives us an opurtunity to show our creativity and communicate out of school.

I LOVE IT!!! IT IS SOOOO FUN!!!

Extract from NZ masters thesis re digital classrooms:

"The key to the success of a digital classroom is the teacher and the type of pedagogy that is used in the classroom. The teacher needs to take a facilitator role, implementing a constructivist learning environment where the student interacts seamlessly with the ICT in a rich multimedia learning environment. To be effective the ICT must be transparent. The inquiry process is an effective pedagogy to use with ICT. The study found that each classroom was at a different stage along the constructivist continuum. The most effective classroom had the teacher in a facilitator role and the students had freedom to learn using the digital tools. Digital classrooms have the potential to merge the new learning styles of today’s students with the power of the new emerging digital tools to produce a new generation of independent literate problem solving students."

Ms M believes that innovative teaching practice is vital. We should be allowed to innovate and to develop the tools that best enhance student learning. We need to search out Web 2.0 tools that do not have age restrictions so that our teachers are safe too. Love your work Room 18 and Mr Woody!

We have introduced Blogging to our kindergarten children (3 and 4 years old). While we do most of the posts they do make decisions also about what goes up. They also take photos and share their work via our centre and individual sites. Our little children are quite capable of navigating our blog site and revisiting their learning. The peer tutoring and communication is amazing!

Blogging is very multi-dimensional and the children love having their learning show cased because it affirms them as capable competent learners who are very much valued by teachers, family and peers.

Blogging is important beacuse it improves our spelling, puncuation and grammer skills.Because our work has to be error free if it's going to be seen by the public. Also blogging is good because we get to showcase our learning in a diferent environment and we can get feedback/feedforward from other people.

I had an interesting convosation with other training teachers RE blogging and other technology in classrooms, and I have to say that my time with room 18 and next door room 19 has really shown me the value and potential that blogging and all the other exciting technology that kids can use has in the classroom! I am constantly impressed by the kids critical thinking and contributions to their own and others blogs, I'm totally converted!

Go Blogging!
