What a load of Rubbish!

Wow - our school is creating a lot of waste, recycling nothing and being very naughty. It is NOT SUSTAINABLE!!!
Our planet needs some help from brilliant young leaders of tomorrow, like yourselves.
The young people [compared to me] who visited you today from S.I.F.E. were incredible folk. They were giving up their time to get across an important message to you all during their very busy uni exam study week. They do it because they CARE.
I was delighted at how positive you were about their message. Well done to those contributed sensibly to their discussion.
Can you remember what you learnt?
What shall we as a class do to help? Remember - don't make a commitment to something you don't intend to stick to...

Yeah! I really enjoyed it! They had a lot of cool quotes to share with us, and they had a fun way of teaching us. I took a lot of notes using the dot jot method I circled important things and sometimes even changed colour if the topic was REALLY important! I got two and a half pages of notes! It was really worthwhile!

well, a school with 800+ students could at least recycle. it is the most simplist thing on earth and we still don't do it. It's disgusting. In the UK (where I come from) you couldn't go anywhere without seeing a recycling bin (unless you close your eyes) and there was a lot more household waste that you could recycle. And Mysteryman and The Other Boy will probably agree.

I wasnt there and it sounds exciting, i wish i was.
I think we should have a school enviro-team called the green team or something which advises the school on recyling and reusing and maybe we could talk to Mr Noble about being an eviroschool. I would be so cool to help the world help ourselfs! I realy believe that some people have ruined our planet but I think its up to us to change it back to way it was before all the machinary and nventons which have made our world into something that it shouldnt have been.
WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! There is no point sitting around thinking of things that we need to do we need to help our world regains its natural unpolluted self to as I said help the world help ourselfs!

Good for you peeps - its peeps like you who may save the planet a lot of unnecessary grief.

Every extinction feels like a a most brutal wound to me - how can we sit back and say nothing about animal torture, cruelty, environmental destruction of the most horrific kinds, ill-treatment of the less advantaged, etc.

Your right Mr Woody, me too. I realy think our class should do something!

Your right, they were awesome guys. They do seem to have the feeling of a caring person, not the selfish government type. Those guys are the people that you would want to live with, not the self-centered brand.
They also seem to be good at minerals, the mineralogist should ask them some Big Q's about minerals. I asked them what they thought about the rock/dirt I discovered last year at Pukete, I also told them that it tasted like pepper, and at that they told me to bring them some.
I think that this would be a good chance to show the class the Sweet Dirt (as I call it) that I discovered. I discovered this Treat when I had not much lunch, and I tried to eat what I could find growing I the nearby gardens, or I could mine in the Secret Mining Operation for Research (S.M.O.R.). SMOR started when we wanted to dig a tunnel in school bounds two years ago, and me and my friends, now SMOR agents, kept finding cool things in the ground. We decided that this would be a good site for a mining operation, and instead of our tunnel, we started to mine these things. One of these things was Sweet Dirt, and we made salads with it and stuff from the gardens. We thought we would have to protect these goods, and so we made barbed wire (Rose thorns) to defend these items. When some people started to rip our defenses (set in bushes) out of the ground, we planted new trees to replace them, as this became a habit, we planted more and more trees, saving the school money. Then we found cool mixtures of plants and leaves from the gardens, we started to put together energy packs. we gave these to certain people who kept our Operation a secret, and swapped them with the Teachers to be able to continue the Operation, However, only a few people knew about our work, but more people knew when they found strange liquids in the gardens, and followed some wreckage and work in a path to our shade huts, and defenses, and destroyed them. This eventually started the Tribe Wars, you can ask me about them in class sometime.

Hi, It's me! I think having those guys coming in made a big change in me. I told my mum and step-dad tonight about how we could help the enviroment by sharing just a few like using our compost bin as a worm farm, turning of unused lights, certain heat depth and time for baths and showers. I have to admit I'm proud of myself for trying to make the world a better place. I also remembered to do my homework for the SPANISH TEST on Friday. Hopefully I'll pass. But, we can only hope not say "I'm going to pass" so you never know.

I think it sucks that our school doesn't have a recycling program.

I couldn't believe how much stuff we wasted until those two guys showed us!

Yeah its really bad that our school doesn't do recycling, its pretty shamful. Because Rotorua intermediate sports teams are coming and we still don't recycle!

This was a really interetsting lesson. I think that the rest of the school need to no about all the rubish that is basically geting wasted. We should like go round to classes in pairs and do exactly what those guys did so they can see how amazing the result actually is.

It is really bad that we don't recycle at our school. I wasn't there when Jo and Clement came to Room 18, i was at a hockey tournament, but it sounds like they were really interesting and taught Room 18 a lot about sustainability!

It was awesome and i got to say thanks to them cos i was the best pupil W00T. It was intresting but with 800+ kids it is hard not to make a lot of waste and no recycling that is very dissapointing

Woah! What a lot of comments! Really enjoyed reading about the epic adventures of Frozen Tree!:)
I think Love Peace and Happiness has had a fantastic idea! Going in pairs around the school and shpwing each class how much of thier rubbish is recyclble or worm farm-able would be a fantastic learning experience for the rest of the school! Can some one remind me to bring this up in class?? I really want to follow it up! :)

It was awsome but if we dont decrease our litter/ rubbish then we should just find get some recycling bins making our waste not going to waste.
