Worm Farming
Can you please discuss here your understanding of the concept of worm farming, how it relates to our class, our school, our environment and what level of involvement you could personally achieve. If you are keen to be a worm expert, make a post about it on your personal blog.
I will select the most intelligent, dedicated, well-informed, persistent students to be involved.

What exciting opportunities exist to help us make progress with our school's ecological footprint, our impact on the Earth, that Environment Waikato could help us with.
What other environmentally friendly ideas have you got for the school?

Worm farming is a great idea to help the enviroment and make profits. Worm juice makes a great fertilser and we could sell them to buy plants to put around the school or we could maybe buy different bins for recycling! We could also ask to get $1000 from enviroment waikato, which we could also use to form a native planting project of some kind!
I think that we should have an eviro-team that informs about things or issues that we could do to keep the school eviromently friendly!
Just one question what will a worm expert actually do? =) Bubblez
Sounds Great Mr Woody I woud really like to help with that......
By the way PLEASE come to my blog to read my post about the Hindenburg Disaster because my library comp. is on a book about Hydrogen.
Cheers
BOBBY!!!!
I think worm farming is a cool idea because its a chance for us to leave our mark on the school and be rememberd as rm18 who made a difference!
Worm farms are cool , the other day a boy came to our door selling worm juice but we have know vege gqarden we are still getting our grass to grow (new house)
Any way come and see my post on positive in room 18 :)
Yesterday I was at my old school Pukete and they had two worm thingys that have juice dripping out through the bottom!!
Think its a great Idea.
lilrocsta :)
Worm farms are cool, i agree with bubbels. and do u guys have a greenhouse?
Yeah! Worm farming is an awesome idea! I'm really enjoying our eco-friendly topic this term! Can we do it all year?!
We had a worm farm at our old school, and it made great environmentalness, and also some nice profit! ! !
It is rather easy, just put food scraps (no citrus) into an old bath, and add worms. You probably need a bucket under the plughole to catch the worm juice (needs to be diluted 1:10 with water), and some old carpet/chicken wire over the top to keep the pests out, and voila! ! !
i think worm farming is cool because it helps save the environment and is very sustainable
Hi, I think a worm farm is a great idea and I remember at my old school, Aberdeen School, they were planning to have a worm farm. Unfortunately they never got round to it so Aberdeen remains without a worm farm, from what I know anyway. Although, I would be interested in running our worm farm.
I think we should have a worm farm.
I like the idea of a worm farm to you know protect the environment and everithing, but I won't be interested in actually running it. Because it's yucky. But I'll do other stuff like paper recycling and vegetable gardening!
I agree with 'i couldn't think of one...', I think this school should have a worm farm. At my Primary school we had one but I wasn't really part of it.
Great work, peeps - especially Bubbles who found the info I was hoping for!!!
Hurry For Worm Farming now you must get me on the job as me and my Mum are going to build one so i will have some knowledge in making them!
As much as i would like to be a worm farmer im not that dedicated to do that sort of stuff.
I'm not really interested in that stuff.
I have just been talking to Barb and to the SIFE guys via email. Barb has a bath that she is going to give us for FREE! and she has the worms that we need! Wow! and the SIFE guys are comiing in next wednesday, which i think is when they are going to teach us about worm farms. Then we have a week to organise the school to be ready to put all their food scraps into specual bins. THEN.. the next wednesday they are coming back to build the wormfarm and set it up with us and BAM! the food scraps are gone!
Some great comments and some odd ones - i.e. the ones that state your disinterest...
Hooray for networking! We now have a free bath to use thanks to Mrs Reid.
:-)
how about we go and visit the worm farm at the hamilton gardens
My school has worm farms aswell! I sometimes help aswell! ECO FRIENDLY!!!!!
